When I woke up this morning my feeds were filled with these 2015 Best Nine grids. Brilliant stuff, to build a page that analyzes the users top posts and then generates this little image to be shared.
I wrote a micro essay to go along with mine. It was a good exercise to knock the cobwebs from my head. The micro essay takes the pressure off writing something longer, and paired with IG is fun. Thanks to Creative Non Fiction for the idea.
Here it is:
"The day she walked out of the magazine office for the last time, she had eaten all of the charcuterie and drank all of the craft cocktails that a 17-state region had to offer. And The Next Best City to Visit! was her own. A few months later, she bought a cheeky cross stitch and hung it up in her new office at the advertising agency. The closet, once lined with Professional Lady Pink Heels, was switched out for the vintage she'd snuck back in her suitcases. But not even the new Gold Chuck Taylors and 70s maxi dress was a rival for the grocery checkout boy, who, at Halloween, dressed as a piece of sushi. Pictured: the crystal blue waters on hometown Pier 60, her son dressed as Harry Potter at the fall festival, before she whispered in his ear that They Were Going To Orlando on vacation; a letter from his first summer camp, a sombrero in the back of a Chicago taxi cab during a business trip given to her by a waitress in Racine; and, at the center, the promise of a wedding that wouldn't have been legal before that summer. Not Pictured: her mother's surgeries, the weeks at the rehabilitation facility, and starting 100 stories about it, never finishing. Leading a group of writers in an interpretive dance to the Brothers Gibb at a writing camp in the Catskills. Unfinished sentences. Time curled in the fetal position at the urgent care center, with the Demerol and the pills to stop the migraines next time. A conference room with the lights out so no one saw the Dior Show Mascara running down her face. Cup after cup of coffee at Panera while saying, 'Yes, I'm willing to surrender.'"
