"Before you cross the street, take my hand.
Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans." -- John Lennon, "Beautiful Boy."
Yeah, they are some of the most quoted lyrics, but there's a reason for that. Six years ago today I was in my office at the Cancer Center making to-do lists. I knew that in three weeks I would give birth sans medicine, with a carefully curated playlist coming out of my ipod. Utilizing hypnobirthing techniques, I would shun that of the epidural, deliver my son, and proceed to easily nurse him for the next 12 months. (Oh, yes, I was also going to teach myself how to make lasagna during my maternity leave.)
Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans.
Nine hours later that day this happened. There was no birthing ball.
I never did learn how to cook lasagna. Or anything else. Oops.
That's why those lyrics are quoted so much.
Happy 6th birthday to my beautiful, beautiful, beautiful boy.
