In 1991, my brother auditioned to perform in the halftime of the Super Bowl. He made it, as did my Dad. Ryan dressed as a Dutch Boy and Dad was a captain of one of the floats.
It worked out well because Dad got to see The New York Giants, one of his favorite teams, up close. They practiced for several weekends and nights, driving from our home in Clearwater to Tampa. The only bummer was that the network didn't air the halftime show, pre-empting it for Gulf War coverage.
So now, in honor of their performance, I bring Super Bowl 1991, featuring not just my family, but also .. New Kids On The Block. (Sadly, it was voted one of the worst half times ever, not because of my family's participation, but because of said NKOTB.)
