Santa Party Success

I'm writing this while eating a dinner of leftover cookies and sitting on a heating pad. It was crazy, but it was worth it -- the second annual Santa party is a wrap! I'm getting on a plane in 12 hours, but want to share a few photos and thoughts from today.

Because I have to say, for someone who just got off another plane less than two days ago, I'm pretty happy with how it all turned out. (And yes, I had help, from the wonderful Girl Friday Birmingham. She is for hire!)

That said, my life is insane. I wasn't sure I was going to be able to pull this one off. Sitting on the floor this morning surrounded by piles of laundry and suitcases, with party food to set out (thank you Costco) and floors to cleaned, I had a true moment of panic.

But seeing the looks on the kids' faces when Santa walked in the door and took the time to visit with each one of them. It's worth it. It's all worth it. No one saw the piles of laundry (I think), and I even got to spend time with both old and new friends, in between serving champagne and red velvet cupcakes (thank you again Costco.)

And yes, that photo of me on Santa's lap: it was right after I wished for a nap. Then I wiped off a table or two, packed up my laptop bag and headed for the office to finish up a story.

That nap? might not get it. But Santa, thanks for all the gifts. These kids' faces, the stories, family, and yes, even the piles of laundry -- you deliver.
